St. Patricks Day Celebration at Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub

Leo and I decided to celebrate St. Patricks Day with lunch instead of dinner at Liam Maguires Irish Pub. But there was still lots going on. The corn beef and cabbage was scrumptous and the Irish humor running rampant! The Guinness just hit the spot. And the singing had already begun. All kinds of old friends were there and must admit that lunch became a 3-hour event. We didn’t solve too many of the world’s problems, but boy did we try. (The guys from AIG getting those big bonuses better not show up.)

Lot’s of toasts for Liam being listed as a Top 10 Irish Pub at Boston.com!

It was such a gorgeous day, that Leo and I, went for a long walk on a West Falmouth beach. This is truly our philosophy in life, eat a good meal, visit with good friends, and then exercise our buts off! I would stroll the beach, but Leo used to be a marathoner and he pushes me to walk fast forward, walk fast backward, then do my sidesteps, jump up and down, do a few jumping jacks, maybe show off my ability to do TWO real men’s style push ups. I feel like I’m Rocky getting ready to take on Appollo! And yes people do look at us funny. But our doctor is very happy with our blood pressure, despite our proclivity for the good life.

We came home and I had a quiet night continuing to read Carlo D’Este’s Warlord - a biography of Winston Churchill.

Liam Maguire’s Named one of the Top 10 Irish Pubs in New England

I just got an email from Jill at Liam Maquire’s sharing the news that Boston.com has named them one of the Top 10 Irish Pubs in New England. Leo and I want to give a hearty congragulation and say that we agree!

If you read this blog on a daily basis you know that Leo and I are regulars there.  I’ve already blogged about St. Patrick’s Day at Liam Maguire’s but I’ll review just a little in light of the new honors.  Festivities start at 11 am and go on until 1 am. You’ll be able to enjoy Irish Music, Beer, and Corn Beef and Cabbage the whole time!

Liam Maguire’s is all stocked with Guinness, Harp, Liam’s House Ale and many more beers on tap.

St. Patrick’s Day entertainment will include Liam Maguire, Brendan Sheridan, Dave Wilson, and Brian Boru Pipe Band.

Liam Maguie’s Irish Pub is located at 237 Main Street in Falmouth. There is a large municipal parking lot right across the street.

Bowling, Irish Music, and Books on Falmouth Main Street

Leo and I have found that it’s important as we age (we are in our early 50’s) to make sure that we have a lot of daily physical activity. But we try to vary it and make it as much fun as possible. So we’ll be walking around Main Street, Falmouth and bowling tomorrow night. Of course we’ll work up an appetite and stop in at Liam Maguires.

Bowling at the Leary Family Amusement Center So tomorrow night we are going bowling at Leary Family Amusements. From 7 to 11 pm they have the Cosmic Bowling Music and Light Show. The cost is only $5 per person per game. It’s a great show, and we like it because it starts earlier than some of the bowling light shows on Cape Cod that start at midnight - which is usually way too late for us! There’s also a game room where we might hang out for a bit. We’ll see folks we know and get caught up on the local scene, while others do some bowling.

Liam Maguires Irish Pub We haven’t decided if we’ll eat before or after bowling. But we’ll probably stop in at Liam’s and have some dinner and stay for some singing.

The Inkwell Bookstore is located between bowling and food, so there’s a very good chance we’ll stop in if they’re open. I don’t know what their winter night hours are. So we may have to make it our first stop and go late in the afternoon.

Anyways that’s what we’ll be doing tomorrow night!

Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub on Main Street in Falmouth is a Great Idea for St. Patrick’s Day!

Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub on Main Street in Falmouth is a great place for dinner and then stay for the singing. You’ll usuually get to hear Liam Maguire himself and then another wonderful Irish singer. It’s not uncommon for the audience to sing a long. And sometimes we even get up and dance!

So you know where Leo and I are planning to be on St. Patrick’s Day. There’s going to be music all day long from 11 am to 1 am. There’ll be Liam Maguire, Brendan Sheridan, Dave Wilson, and the Brian Boru Pipe Band. The Falmouth Fire Rescue Shamrocks Against Dystrophy Fundraiser. And of course corned beef and cabbage all day long!

Liam and Deborah Maguire have owned their Irish pub since 1994. It’s really become a vital part of the Main Street community in Falmouth. (Leo took me there on our third date!)

Liam was born and raised in Castle Dirg Co Tyrone and spent 30 years travelling and singing in Europe, Canada and the States before settling in Falmuoth. Leo used to live in the Washington D.C. area and knew Liam before moving here.

Liam Maquire’s Irish Pub isn’t just about St. Patrick’s Day either. On March 19th, there will be a return performance of the Stage Door Canteen. Wow, if you love 1940’s Big Band era, you do not want to miss this. It is one wonderful time. Come revel in the music of Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Kay Keyser and Count Basie Bands to name a few.
