As I was working in the raspberry patch early this morning, I started to wonder how many small farms are there on Cape Cod and what do they produce.  I decided that one of the things I would do this spring and summer would be to learn about them and actively support them. Local agriculture is really one of the healthiest ways to eat.

To my surprise I found the Cedar Spring Herb Farm in Harwich, owned by Donna who is a Chartered Herbalist from Dominion Herbal College.  I really wasn’t think about this type of small-scale specialty farm. Or for a new, local place to buy natural cosmetics and treatments - a few years ago, I decided that if I couldn’t eat something, it wasn’t going on my body either - but I’m so happy to have found one.

I also prefer to eat locally grown organic food and gourmet products. One of the things Cedar Spring Herb Farm produces is herbed honey (cinnamon basil honey, ginger thyme honey, lemon balm honey, and rosemary honey.) These only cost $3.50 each. I’m thinking what wonderful gourmet gifts they’ll make for all my fellow foodies. If you’re visiting Cape Cod this Spring and Summer, these are wonderful gifts to bring back home to gourmet cooks and tea drinkers.

Cedar Spring is working to save endangered medicinal plants. If you haven’t heard of this issue, it really is important.

I’m looking forward to my first visit at this organic farm this spring and will report back.

Cape Cod Beach Vacation Motel Rates Under $150 a day in the Summer

You can stay at the Beach Breeze Inn in West Harwich for only $145 a day, during the summer. That’s one of the best deals I’ve found so far. Leo and I have a 4-bedroom house, but that doesn’t begin to be able to hold the number of friends and family we have. So when people say they want to visit, I often have to tell them we are full, but here’s a list of affordable motels on Cape Cod. And sometimes folks want to be on their own. But I still get the emails, where can we stay?

I also just like this website. The owners - Steve and Pam -  set a real nice tone. No, I don’t know them, but if I were planning a Cape Cod beach vacation, their site would encourage me to call them and find out more!

Spring Season April 11 to June 25 - Two Queen Beds $75 - $90;  1 King Bed $85 -$105.
Summer Season June 26 to September 6 - Two Queen Beds $139 - $145; 1 King Bed $149 - $155.
Fall Season September 7 to October 11 - Two Queen Beds $85 - $95; 1 King Bed $90 - $105.
Late Fall Season October 12 to November 29 - Two Queen Beds $75 - $80; 1 King Bed $85 -$90.

Weekly rates are available, if you ask. All rates are single or double occupancy and may change without notice. There is a 9.7% room tax. There is a $20 charge per night for each additional person. Up to 2 children (under 16 yrs old) are free. Maximum of 5 people per room. At least one registered guest must be 21 or older. 2-night minimum stay on weekends (3 or more on holidays). Sometimes in the summer season a 3 or more night minimum may be required. Roll-aways and cribs available at a $15 set-up fee. All rooms are non-smoking and no pets.

Amenities There is a complimentary continental breakfast which includes juice, coffee, and homemade muffins in the lobby. Free wi-fi is also available. You can relax at their pool and cook dinner in the barbecue area which has gas grills.

Affordable Cape Cod Spring Vacation Starts at $65 a night at the Wishing Well Motel in Harwich.

Today was a beautiful day on Cape Cod. So there’s plenty of good weather and other reasons to getaway and enjoy Cape Cod in the off-season. The Wishing Well Motel in Harwich is the perfect affordable motel for such an escape. It’s a short walk to the beach and has a swimming pool. Although at this time of year, the pool probably isn’t an option! All units have private baths, telephones, refrigerators, TV and are heated and air-conditioned. But No Smoking and no pets.

A room with a queen size bed is only $65 until May 21st. And if you book online or pay in cash upon your arrival you can save 5%. Stay 3 or more nights and save $10. I’m not sure if these can be combined. But, wow, such a good rate!

A room with two double beds, a microwave and coffee pot is only $75. A studio with 1 queen bed and full kitchen is also $75. That is probably the choice for Leo and me. I want coffee before I do anything. And the money we save on breakfast and late night snacking, is amazing.

If you’re travelling in a group a 2 bedroom suite is only $135. One bedroom has 2 double beds, the other a single queen bed.

The Wishing Well Motel has been owned and operated by Wally Cunningham since 1985. Leo would like this option alot. He grew up at a fishing camp and motel in Florida, and always likes to stay at small locally owned motels whenever it’s possible.

Romantic Cape Cod Getaway Starts at $155 a day at the Dunscroft By-The-Sea Inn.

The Dunscroft By-The-Sea Inn is just what I picture when I think of a romantic Cape Cod inn. It is located on the right on the ocean with a private, 2-mile, ocean-front beach - only 150 yards from the inn. Are you celebrating your anniversary or an important birthday this Spring?
