Sandwich Pizza House

Pizza picnics at the beach are a wonderful part of summer on Cape Cod. Nothing could be easier than calling one of our local pizza shops, picking up the pizza, and heading to the beach for an easy and refreshing meal. A pizza and a can of soda or bottle of water and you’ve got the perfect meal with a view. Sandwich has several pizza shop options for you to choose from. In Sandwich Village there’s the Sandwich Pizza House, Emelia’s Pizza and Italian Specialties, Sweet Tomatoes, and Lelli’s Pizza. In the southern portion of Sandwich, you’ll find Surfs Up Pizza & Seafood and Domino’s Pizza

The Sandwich Pizza House is a traditional pizza shop with a counter, lots of booths that easily seat six, and a really large, big-screen television that you can  see from any of the booths. While Sandwich Pizza is kid friendly, it’s never overwhelmed with kids. So grown-ups can definitely enjoy a beer with their pizza and watch the game and get caught up with all the other folks hanging out on there. (Matt and I usually get a large pizza with sausage, green peppers, onions, and olives – very delicious!)

Sweet Tomatoes Pizza

Sweet Tomatoes Pizza serves thin crust Neapolitan pizza. You walk in and the kitchen and counter is own your left and a bar and tables with television is on your right. It also has a beer and wine license so you can enjoy an adult beverage with your pizza. It’s a bit more upscale than the Sandwich Pizza House.

Emelias Pizza and Italian Specialties is a cozy little bistro with a few  tables for you linger and enjoy your pizza. The Caprese Pizza ($11.95 or $16.95) is a customer favorite featuring fresh mozzrella prosciutto, basil, tomatoes, olive oil and garlic. There is no television and they don’t have a beer and wine license.

Surf’s Up Pizza and Seafood feels more like a family restaurant than an pizza parlor. It’s very large and serves many more dishes than just pizza. There is an extensive list of beers and wine available. You can also schedule your child’s birthday party there. In fact they have a fun feature where kids can make their own pizza at the table. While the kids parties are usually in their own corner of the restaurant, there’s no wall separation, so if you’re there while the parties going on, you’ll know. And some times if you’re in the mood – these kinds of festivities can bring out the child in us. There are several televisions available to watch.

Price of a Cheese Pizza I think the best way to compare the price level in a Pizza shop it to look at the size and price of a small and large cheese pizza. Lelli’s Pizza isn’t open. I’ll update in a few weeks after they’re open!  Of course all prices are subject to change without notice. The phone numbers are included if you want to order.

Cape Cod Geography Lesson You’ll also notice in the information below that the Surf’s Up Pizza is located in Forestdale and not Sandwich. Forestdale is an unofficial village of Sandwich and some of the GPS and mapping software have adopted it as it’s own entity. So to get the location on the map to show up correctly I had to input Forestdale and not Sandwich.

Mariner Motor Lodge, Route 28, West Yarmouth, Massachusetts

Golfers of all ages will love the Mariner Motor Lodge. There’s a miniature golf course on the hotel grounds, and the hotel is only minutes from the Bayberry Hills Golf Course. If you love to spend your days at the beach, then your just a short drive to Sea Gull Beach. You don’t have to give up your health club routine either. The Mariner Motor Lodge has partnered with the Mid-Cape  Racquet Club to give you health club privileges. It also is only minutes away from the Mariner Motor Lodge.

A family-owned Cape Cod hotel and a very family-friendly hotel, the Mariner Motor Lodge always seems to have a great Cape Cod Vacation special for school vacation weeks.

The 100 guests rooms all have a refrigerator, television, air conditioning, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, room safe, clock radio, and writing table. All rooms are Smoke Free.

The rates vary by season and day of the week and room type. During the Summer Season (July 1 to August 27) expect to pay from $99 to $155 to stay at the Mariner Motor Lodge. You’ll pay more for weekends and to face the Courtyard.

You can earn Free Nights with their easily understood program. Just save your registration receipt. Every paid night counts as one point. Earn 9 points and stay mid-week for free. Earn 18 points and get a free weekend night. Because the Mariner Motor Lodge is part of the Dockside Hotel Group, you can earn points when you stay at the Cape Point Hotel and the Town ‘n Country to redeem at the Mariner.

Seadar Inn by the Sea, 1 Braddock Lane, Harwich Port, Massachusetts

There are 20 guest rooms and one second floor apartment. Many of the guest rooms can be conveniently combined into family suites. Six Standard rooms are available with private baths, queen beds, air conditioning, television and wifi. Six Moderate rooms are larger than Standard rooms and have king beds, some have ocean views and decks, private baths, air conditioning, television and wifi. Eight Superior rooms are the largest of the guest rooms with either a king bed or two double beds, air conditioning, refrigerators, television and wifi. Several have ocean views.

Room rates vary according to season, weekday, and guest room. At the peak of the Summer Season (Jun 17 – Sept 4)  room rates range from $145 to $400. Spring Garden Inn, Route 6A, Sanwich, Massachusetts

The Spring Garden Inn is a quaint, shingled motel on the south side of Route 6A Sandwich. It was built in a different time, when structures respected the landscape and had no need to dominate it. It’s light grey and geen colors complement the landscape. Take a look to the right and you’ll see a special part of the Spring Garden Inn – it’s backyard. Perhaps no other Cape Cod hotel is so linked to the marsh and wetlands environment as the Spring Garden Inn. The grounds slope gently to the 2,500-acre Scorton Creek Conservation Preserve. If you love to paddle this is a wonderful spot. The area is filled with birds and wildlife. Sit quietly on your porch in a handcrafted Appalachian rocker or lounge in a hammock on the grounds – and watch the birds and other wildlife wander by. If you want to cool off, there’s an outdoor pool to enjoy on warm days.

A complementary breakfast of fresh baked pastries, coffee and tea is served from 8 AM to 10 AM. All guest rooms are air conditioned or heated with television and telephones. The grounds have grills with picnic tables – and lots of places to sit and appreciate Mother Nature.

You’re just a short walk from Momo’s Food Emporium which has a wonderful assortment of daily specials. For example on Tuesday you’ll find a Ham and Brie Panini, Tomato Basil Soup, and a Butternut Squash Rollotini on the menu. I can personally vouch for the giant cupcakes for dessert! So you can grill or you can do gourmet take out.  But most of all you can enjoy a relaxed evening with friends and family on Cape Cod.

The rooms are traditional Cape Cod decor, many with Knotty Pine walls. Just seeing the decor will bring you to a relaxed frame of mind.

Palmer House, 81 Palmer Avenue, Falmouth, Massachusetts

Romantics will love the stately charm of this Victorian Bed and Breakfast nestled into the Cape Cod landscape. Literature lovers will adore honoring their favorite authors as they stay in the rooms – Edith Wharton, James Fenimore Cooper, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Emily Dickenson, Robert Frost, Herman Melville, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Henry James and more. Each room in the Palmer House Inn is distinctive and luxuriously decorated – and has several volumes of the author’s work available.

Holly House Bed and Breakfast, Bourne, Massachusetts

If you love to sit on a porch and watch the world go by, then the Holly House Bed and Breakfast is a geat choice for you. With it’s views of the Cape Cod Canal, you can watch merchant ships from all over the world and delight in the beatiful saiboats that also make their way through the Canal.

Bourne is a great location because it’s so near the bridges that span the Cape Cod Canal. If you’re leaving on a Sumer Sunday, it’s a great way to minimize the time you spend in our notorious Sunday traffic jams.

As you can see from the photo at the left, Holly House is a beautiful Victorian setting for your Cape Cod vacation. There are three types of  guest rooms – the Holly Room, the Canal Room, and the Sunset Room. Depending upon the room you’ll enjoy a king bed, queen bed or twin beds. Room fans and air conditioning are also available. (Don’t kid yourself, there are Summer nights, when air conditioning is a must on Cape Cod. ) Some of the rooms have a private baths and others share. So be sure to ask if this is important for you.  Prices vary with the season, day of the week, and room desired – generally between $75 to $120. Heritage House on Main Street Hyannis, MA

If you want to be in the middle of everything on your Cape Cod vacation, the the Heritage House Hotel on Main Street Hyannis is the perfect home base for you! Hyannis is in the middle of Cape Cod, so most everything  from Falmouth to Provincetown, is within an hour of your hotel.

It’s located at 259 Main Street, which puts on you the end of Main Street near the harbor and ferries. Take the bus from Boston or other nearby cities, if you don’t have a car, and then it’s a short walk or an affordable taxi fare to the Heritage House. From there, you’ll have lots to do within walking distance. Main Street Hyannis is filled with shops, cafes, restaurants, bookstores, and live music.

Heritage House as 143 guest rooms with either  two double beds or a single king bed. Room amenities include cable TV with free HBO, refrigerator, hairdryer, coffeemaker, shower/tub combination, individual climate control, and an iron and ironing board.  I have to admit that I love having a refrigerator and coffee pot in my hotel room. It makes late night snacks and breakfast very convenient and cheap!

It is a moderately priced hotel. When I checked reservations for the Summer Weekend of July 24 through July 26, I was quote a price of $169 per night plus tax.

The Heritage House Hotel has both an indoor pool and outdoor pool. So you can lounge around and enjoy the water even if it rains. Golf Packages are available. You can stay at the Heritage House creates a custom golf package letting you choose from among 20 golf courses.

Nauset House Inn, Orleans, Massachusetts

Take the nostalgic vintage Nauset House Inn and add in is its location – only minutes from Nauset Beach and you have a beachcomber’s paradise. This pristine beach, which is stretches for 10 miles along the Atlantic Coast, is part of the National Seashore Park and is owned by the National Park Service.

Built in 1810 as a farmhouse, this antique structure is nestled among 100-year-old apple trees and tranquil grounds. This quant inn, family owned since 1982, provides the perfect setting for a nature and beach lover’s retreat.

Each morning you’ll enjoy a complimentary gourmet breakfast. After a day at the beach or hiking nature trails, you’ll truly enjoy 5:30 PM wine, cranberry juice and hors d’oevres in the Commons Room.

There Nauset Inn House has 9 guest rooms – three with private baths. The remaining six have shared baths. The three on the top floor share a bath and the three on the first floor share a bath. Inn at Swan River, Main Street, West Dennis, Massachusetts

Enjoy relaxing in the tranquil wooded grounds of the Inn at Swan River. Read a book or have your lunch poolside. If you want to leave the relaxing seclusion of the Inn, you’ll find golf, tennis, fishing and shopping only minutes away.

The Inn at Swan River is the perfect homebase for a traditional seaside Cape Cod vacation any time of the year. It has 26 spacious and beautifully decorated rooms. Amenities include air conditioning, cable television, refrigerator and telephone. It also has Efficiency Units, which are what I usually look for when I travel! These include a conveniet kitchenette with utensils, coffee pot, and microwave. Quite frankly I love having a quite cup of coffee before I face the world! Some of the guest rooms have views of the landscaped grounds. All of the rooms are smoke-free. 

There are several types of guest rooms available – The Queen Suite, King Suite, Executive Queen Suite,  the Executive Queen Suite, and the Swan River Suite.

Room Rates vary depending upon the season, day of the week and room requested. For the Summer weekend of July 22, 2011 through July 25, 2011, the Standard Suite with 2 Queen Beds is $497 plus tax. The Kitchen Suite with 2 Queen Beds is $587 plus tax. The Kitchen Suite with a King Bed and Sofa is $617 plus tax. Old Sea Pines Inn, Main Street, Brewster, Massachusetts

Under 8, children are very welcome in the family accommodations. Kid-friendly foods are included in the complimentary breakfast.
