Where to Eat Pizza in Sandwich, Massachussetts

Sandwich Pizza House

Pizza picnics at the beach are a wonderful part of summer on Cape Cod. Nothing could be easier than calling one of our local pizza shops, picking up the pizza, and heading to the beach for an easy and refreshing meal. A pizza and a can of soda or bottle of water and you’ve got the perfect meal with a view. Sandwich has several pizza shop options for you to choose from. In Sandwich Village there’s the Sandwich Pizza House, Emelia’s Pizza and Italian Specialties, Sweet Tomatoes, and Lelli’s Pizza. In the southern portion of Sandwich, you’ll find Surfs Up Pizza & Seafood and Domino’s Pizza

The Sandwich Pizza House is a traditional pizza shop with a counter, lots of booths that easily seat six, and a really large, big-screen television that you can  see from any of the booths. While Sandwich Pizza is kid friendly, it’s never overwhelmed with kids. So grown-ups can definitely enjoy a beer with their pizza and watch the game and get caught up with all the other folks hanging out on there. (Matt and I usually get a large pizza with sausage, green peppers, onions, and olives – very delicious!)

Sweet Tomatoes Pizza

Sweet Tomatoes Pizza serves thin crust Neapolitan pizza. You walk in and the kitchen and counter is own your left and a bar and tables with television is on your right. It also has a beer and wine license so you can enjoy an adult beverage with your pizza. It’s a bit more upscale than the Sandwich Pizza House.

Emelias Pizza and Italian Specialties is a cozy little bistro with a few  tables for you linger and enjoy your pizza. The Caprese Pizza ($11.95 or $16.95) is a customer favorite featuring fresh mozzrella prosciutto, basil, tomatoes, olive oil and garlic. There is no television and they don’t have a beer and wine license.

Surf’s Up Pizza and Seafood feels more like a family restaurant than an pizza parlor. It’s very large and serves many more dishes than just pizza. There is an extensive list of beers and wine available. You can also schedule your child’s birthday party there. In fact they have a fun feature where kids can make their own pizza at the table. While the kids parties are usually in their own corner of the restaurant, there’s no wall separation, so if you’re there while the parties going on, you’ll know. And some times if you’re in the mood – these kinds of festivities can bring out the child in us. There are several televisions available to watch.

Emelia's Pizza

Price of a Cheese Pizza I think the best way to compare the price level in a Pizza shop it to look at the size and price of a small and large cheese pizza. Lelli’s Pizza isn’t open. I’ll update in a few weeks after they’re open!  Of course all prices are subject to change without notice. The phone numbers are included if you want to order.

Cape Cod Geography Lesson You’ll also notice in the information below that the Surf’s Up Pizza is located in Forestdale and not Sandwich. Forestdale is an unofficial village of Sandwich and some of the GPS and mapping software have adopted it as it’s own entity. So to get the location on the map to show up correctly I had to input Forestdale and not Sandwich.

Spring Garden Inn, Route 6A, Sanwich, Massachusetts

The Spring Garden Inn is a quaint, shingled motel on the south side of Route 6A Sandwich. It was built in a different time, when structures respected the landscape and had no need to dominate it. It’s light grey and geen colors complement the landscape. Take a look to the right and you’ll see a special part of the Spring Garden Inn – it’s backyard. Perhaps no other Cape Cod hotel is so linked to the marsh and wetlands environment as the Spring Garden Inn. The grounds slope gently to the 2,500-acre Scorton Creek Conservation Preserve. If you love to paddle this is a wonderful spot. The area is filled with birds and wildlife. Sit quietly on your porch in a handcrafted Appalachian rocker or lounge in a hammock on the grounds – and watch the birds and other wildlife wander by. If you want to cool off, there’s an outdoor pool to enjoy on warm days.

A complementary breakfast of fresh baked pastries, coffee and tea is served from 8 AM to 10 AM. All guest rooms are air conditioned or heated with television and telephones. The grounds have grills with picnic tables – and lots of places to sit and appreciate Mother Nature.

Here's the front of the Spring Garden Inn!

You’re just a short walk from Momo’s Food Emporium which has a wonderful assortment of daily specials. For example on Tuesday you’ll find a Ham and Brie Panini, Tomato Basil Soup, and a Butternut Squash Rollotini on the menu. I can personally vouch for the giant cupcakes for dessert! So you can grill or you can do gourmet take out.  But most of all you can enjoy a relaxed evening with friends and family on Cape Cod.

The rooms are traditional Cape Cod decor, many with Knotty Pine walls. Just seeing the decor will bring you to a relaxed frame of mind.

Rates are reasonable during the Summer Season expect to pay somewhere in the range of $105 to $130 per night per room plus tax. But this is always subject to change, so give Inn Keepers Linda and Jesse a call at (866)345-5641 to confirm the rates and availability.

Seafood Sam’s Restaurant at Sandwich Marina

    Seafood Sams Sandwich, Falmouth, Yarmouth

Seafood Sam's at the Sandwich Marina

Seafood Sam’s is my favorite place in Sandwich to get a seafood platter. Whenever I’m out walking on a summer day, that’s what I end up saying at least half a dozen times. Tourists are always stopping their car and rolling down their window and shouting, “Do you live here. Where do YOU eat.” And it’s the truth. For a reasonably priced seafood meal and fast service, eat at Seafood Sam’s. Do I only eat there, no, but I eat there alot.

Tak a look to the left and you can see the back of the Seafood Sam’s in Sandwich, with the outdoor balcony. This is the perfect, family friendly seafood restaurant.

(True story. My mom passed out from dehydration after a colonoscopy and was rushed back to the hospital by ambulance. After spending the morning being rehydrated, she was sent home with orders to eat stuff like tea and toast. Not my mother! I asked her what would taste good and she said, “Fish and chips from Seafood Sam’s.” So that’s what we did. Not what the doctor ordered, but she enjoyed every mouthful.)

You can call ahead and have your meal waiting. Seafood Sam’s in Sandwich is located at the Sandwich Marina and Canal Recreation Area. So you can grab your meal and go sit on a bench overlooking the marina and enjoy the scenery and a great meal. If you decide to eat at the restaurant, there is no table service. You walk in and place your order, they give you a red lobster gizmo and it beeps when you’re order is ready. Don’t worry if there’s line. These guys are service pros. It moves quite quickly. While you’re waiting you can scope out a table. If the weather is good there’s an outdoor balcony.

Seafood prices change every day with what the fishermen catch. So I can’t quote you a meal price. But generally Seafood Sam’s prices are as good as they get.

In addition to the Sandwich location, you’ll also find Seafood Sam’s restaurants in Falmouth and Yarmouth. The views in the other locations aren’t as good, but the food is. Sometimes they close in the winter for a while, so it’s best to call in the off-season and see if they’re open – 508-888-4629. If you need a street address for your GPS, it’s 6 Coast Guard Road, Sandwich, MA.

    Cape Cod Canal Recreation Area

The Bourne Bridge over the Cape Cod Canal

The Cape Cod Canal is the first thing that you see when you drive to Cape Cod. When it was built in 1914 it changed us from a 60-mile piece of land sticking out into the Atlantic Ocean into an island. Most people don’t think of Cape Cod as an island until they try to get to us on a busy Friday afternoon. There are only two ways to drive on and off Cape Cod – the Sagamore and Cape Cod bridges. That’s four lanes on and four lanes off.

The canal was built so that merchant ships could avoid the dangerous waters off of Provincetown. It also provides a more direct route between Boston and other east coast seaports. While shipping time and safety were the reasons for the construction of the canal, most people view the Cape Cod Canal as a recreation area.

There are wide paved walkways on both sides of the canal. They are popular spots for walkers, runners and bicyclists and lots of dog walkers We all manage to peacefully co-exist as we get our daily exercise. You’ll also find convenient public restrooms. You’ll also see lots of fisherman sitting along the banks. I’ve been told that it’s one of the best fishing spots on Cape Cod – especially when the “stripers are running.” There are benches for you to sit on if you need a rest. Many of us just make ourselves comfortable on the grass as we watch the boats and large ships go by.

Seafood Sams Restaurant at the Cape Cod Canal

Seafood Sam's Restaurant at the Cape Cod

If you find yourself getting hungry there’s several options for you. You can have an elegant lunch or dinner at the Aqua Grille, with its excellent marina view. For a more casual and family-friendly atmosphere, try Seafood Sam’s. They have a great open air balcony that you can sit on and enjoy the Canal View. Buy your fresh seafood at Joe’s Lobster Mart (a canal-side tradition since 1971) and take it back home for a delicious seafood grill or barbecue. The Sandwich Marina is the focal point of the recreation area. Just visiting it and looking at all of the boat names makes me feel like I’m on vacation. My favorite boat name lately has been Luna-Sea. That describes the way many of us feel about boating and sailing on Cape Cod. During the winter, most of the boats come out of the water and are stored nearby. You’ll see both recreational boats and commercial fishing vessels. Sandwich Marina on the Cape Cod Canal

There’s even a tot lot childrens’ playground, where you can let the kids blow of steam, while you relax. If you’d like to learn more about the history, construction and operation of the Canal be sure to stop in at the Canal Visitor Center. It’s run by the Army Corps of Engineers and is open for the summer, generally from May to October, with FREE Admission. There’s a 41-foot US Army Corp of Engineers patrol boat for the kids, a continuously-playing documentary about the history and ecology of the Cape Cod Canal. You can also see real-time radar images of the canal. And when you need a rest, check out the rocking chairs on the back deck.

All in all the Cape Cod Canal Recreation Area is a great place for a family to spend an afternoon. You can walk along the canal, watch the boats, let the little kids play in the tot lot, learn some interesting facts about the Cape Cod Canal, and eat some great food. And most of it is FREE!

For a Cape Cod Family Vacation – the Country Acres Motel in Sandwich

Country Acres Motel, Sandwich Motel, Massachusetts

Country Acres Motel on Route 6A in Sandwich, Massachusetts

The Country Acres Motel is lcoated on Route 6A just outside of the Historic Sandwich Town Center. Its grounds have a very spacious feel to them. A large pool with seating area is at the center of the courtyard, which is adjacent to the Great Salt Marsh of Cape Cod Bay. Sometimes if you have small children, it’s easier to let them play in the pool than to schlepp them to the beach. That way there’s a quiet room for nap time and you own clean bathroom is nearby as well. The rooms also have refrigerators and microwaves, so you can save on simple meals and snacks. There’s also a complimentary continental breakfast, except during the winter.

The Crow Farm Stand is right across the street so you can get fresh fruit, veggies, and baked goods. Even take a farm tour! It’s been there forever and is a Sandwich tradition.
