Falmouth Main Street Hotels, Shops, Restaurants, and Cafes

Falmouth Main Street Hotels, Shops, Cafes, and Restaurants
Falmouth, Massachusetts Cafes and Shops – A Stroller’s Delight

A summer stroll on Falmouth, Main Street is filled with good food, great music, and lots of fun. Eat in one of the many fabulous restaurants. Such as  the Quaterdeck for seafood , The Golden Swan for Indian cuisine, or the Peking Palace for sushi. As you can see, while you might come to Cape Cod and want a fresh seafood platter or lobster dinner. You don’t have to eat fish 5 nights in a row – unless you want to of course.

Hang out at one of the cozy sidewalk cafes – you can see Artie’s cafe to the left - for a cup of coffee and enjoy watching the sidewalk show. For breakfast don’t miss one of Falmouth’s culinary secrets, Mary Ellen’s Portuguese Bakery. I travel 20 miles form

After dinner or for an anytime snack walk down to Ben and Bill’s Chocolate Emporium for homemade candy and ice cream. You’ve got to be brave and try the lobster ice cream! You’ll also find ice cream for those with special dietary needs – sugar-free ice cream or lactose-free ice cream. Yes the same Ben and Bill’s family-owned business that you might have seen in Bar Harbor Maine and Northhampton, Massachusetts, or on Martha’s Vineyard Island. It actually began in the late 1950′s on Martha’s Vineyard.

Irish music lovers and Guinness addicts will have to stop by Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub. We were all very proud when Liam’s was named one of the Top 10 Irish Pubs in New England on Boston.com. And yes there is a real Liam Maguire and you can hear him sing almost every night. And the audience sings along and it is truly a fun night. (I usually have the Shepard’s Pie or the Beef and Guinness Stew.) Make St. Patrick’s Day a special Cape Cod getaway. You can get great off-season rates at most of the Falmouth Hotels and have a fantastic Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner at Liam’s, with lots of Irish music. For example the vintage Town and Beach Motel is availabe for $45+tax this time of year. But best to call and make sure the rates are still in effect.

Let Duchess read your Ppalm

If you’re wondering what’s next in your life, then why not let Duchess, an old-fashioned gypsy, take a look at your palm and let you know. A perfect girl getaway thing to do! In town for a wedding why not take the bride and bridesmaids for a reading.

Even if you’re staying somewhere else on Cape Cod, Falmouth Main Street is worth the trip. There is always something to do and the parking is so easy. In the center of Main Street, opposite Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub, there’s a municipal parking lot. Even on a Saturday night in August, we’ve always been able to get a parking space there.

Just strolling down the street browsing in the shops, ducking in a cafe, bakery or ice cream shop is a delightful way to spend a few hours. There are also quite a few benches and stone walls to site on if you need a rest.

Sandwich Lodge and Resort, Route 6-A, Sandwich, Massachusetts, USA

Pet-friendly Sandwich Hotel on Cape Cod
Sandwich Lodge and Resort, Route 6-A, Sandwich, Massachusetts

The Sandwich Lodge and Resort is located on  beautiful grounds on Route 6-A in Sandwich, Massachusetts. It is a pet-friendly hotel, with your pets being welcome if you stay in one of their Standard Motel Rooms.

A Standard Motel Room includes either 2 double beds or 1 king bed, mini-fridge and microwave, table with 2 chairs, in-room climate control and a prviate bath. These rooms are conveniently located on the first floor next to the parking area. On the other hand, if you have pet allergies, you might want to stay in the other types of rooms, where pets are excuded.

A second room choice is the One Room Suite, which is larger version of the Standard Motel Room with a kitchenette that adds a sink to the mini-fridge and microwave included in the Standard Motel Room. The One Room Suites are located on the first and second floor. If you are on the first floor, you might have a sliding glass door that exits on to the parking area.

Deluxe Suites have two-rooms. A bedroom with either a king bed or 2 double beds, closet, and television. The sitting room includes a pull-out sofa, television, table with two chairs, kitchenette as decribed in the One Room Suite. It also has individual climate control. These rooms are located on the first and second floors adjacent to the indoor pool.

For a romantic getaway, choose a Jacuzzi Suite. This is a single room with king size bed, television with HBO, private balcony overlooking indoor pool, individual climate control, microwave and mini-fridge and of course a Jacuzzi bath for two.

A complimentary deluxe continental breakfast is served poolside. It does have both an indoor pool and seasonal outdoor pool.

The Sandwich Lodge and Resort is right across the street from a Stop & Shop grocery store, so you don’t have to worry about bringing any food to stock the mini-fridge. It’s also right next door to the British Beer Company, which serves great meals and has live music most Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. I think it is one of the best music venues on Cape Cod.

Call the Sandwich Moter Lodge and Resort at 800-282-535 or 508-888-2275 for info on room rates and availability.

Town and Beach Motel, Main Street, Falmouth, Massachusetts

Town and Beach Hotel, Main Street, Hyannis, Massachusetts, USA

Budget-minded Cape Cod tourists will love the Town and Beach Motel on Main Steet, Hyannis. What you get is a family-owned, vintage hotel that feels like it’s at home in the 1950′s or 1960′s with clean rooms and a geat location.

Located at 382 Main Street, the Town and Beach Motel is just a short walk from Liam Maquire’s Irish Pub and numerous restaurants and cafes, gift shops, and clothing stores – as well as the famed Eight Cousins Bookstore. You can also hop on the local bus that runs by the hotel and take in the village of Woods Hole or catch the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard. This is a great idea, because parking in Woods Hole can be a real headache in at the height of the tourist season.

Breakfast at Mary Ellen's Portuguese Bakery

During the summer you can stay at the Town and Beach for an amazing $75 + tax. There are usually weekly specials and Senior Discounts available. Of course, as is typical on Cape Cod you pay more for holiday weekends and the Falmouth Road Race weekend.

If you can make an off-season Cape Cod vacation, then you’ll enjoy room rates of $45+tax. Mid-season rates are only slightly higher at $55.

Call the Town and Beach Hotel owners, Iris and Virginia Finerty, at 508-548-1380 to confirm room rates and check availability.

There’s no complimentary breakfast or swimming pool, but I would suggest that for a wonderful budget-friendly breakfast you walk down Main Street to Mary Ellen’s Portuguese Bakery. For $5 you get two eggs, toast, home fries and your choice of ham, bacon, or sausage. This is my favorite breakfast spot on Cape Cod and I often drive the 20 miles from Sandwich to Falmouth to enjoy the friendly atmosphere and great food. I guess I should always say that this breakfast is a special and I really don’t know how long the price will last. But I’ve always found great value in all of the delicious beakfasts that I’ve eaten there. They are open at 5 am, so if you’ve got an early ferry ride to catch, this is perfect.
